Tips for BEST events
The travel costs are in most of the cases the most expensive part of your BEST event... BUT, there are a lot of quite cheap alternatives to "normal" air or train journeys!
- Bus
-
- Eurolines has connections to almost every major city in Europe. Be aware that most of the times you need advance booking; further, it's almost always cheaper to book a return trip than two one-way tic
kets.
If you're missing some information for a specific city, you might find that from the Eurolines web-page in the destination country; you can get a list of all Eurolines companies at the international website - For travels to Zagreb, you might consider Croatia Bus as a cheaper alternative! Buses depart/arrive from/to "Südtiroler Platz".

- Train
-
- For some European cities, the "Citystar" ticket (resp "TEE Citystar" for Germany, Denmark, Netherlands & Italy) is a good alternative to the "normal" tickets, especially when you travel in a group!
- If you travel to Italy, you can take a "Sparnight" ticket; if you travel a long distance via Germany (i.e. e.g. to Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark or Southern Sweden), you might consider to take a take a Sparnight ticket close to the German border (Aachen, Düsseldorf, Hamburg) and then continue with a normal Intercity train.
Keep in mind that you should book well in advance, as "Sparnight" seats are limited! - In some European countries, persons under 26 years get reduced tickets either with the EURO<26 card, or with the WASTEELS tickets (you need to show your passport when buying it, and need to be <26).
- Airplane
-
- Bratislava Airport offers some low-cost flights; to get there you have several fast & cheap ways.
- SkyEurope flies to Milan, Paris, Berlin (and some more, non-BEST towns...)
- Slovak Airlines has cheap flights to Brussels (& Moscow).
- Ryanair offers cheap flights from Graz/Klagenfurt/Salzburg (via London) to many European cities.
- Air Berlin flies from Vienna to Berlin, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, London Stansted.
- Germania Express has cheap flights to Berlin, Munich und Zürich.

On every BEST event, there is an international evening. On that occasion, you will be able to present your country a bit, which is normally done by bringing/cooking traditional food and drinks from your country, as well as some local music!
So, on this day, you will be able to taste Russian Vodka, Greek Ouzu, French wine and Romanian Palinka (and many more ;-)).
You might wonder what you can bring as typical food/drinks from Austria?!
Well, we are not here to tell you what you have to bring, but we can give you some small hints!
- Food:
- An evergreen is "Kaiserschmarrn"; of course, "Wiener Schnitzel" is also pretty well known. Or think of "Kässpätzle"!
Further, we recommend to bring some sweets, e.g. "Mozartkugeln " or "Manner Schnitten". - Drinks:
- Though you might never consider drinking it in Austria, "Stroh Rum 60" became a quite famous drink by now, especially in a burning combination with "Mozartkugeln" or "Manner Schnitten"!
For sure, wine will always be welcome too! - Music:
- Well, the range spans from classical music to some more modern music as Falco, Opus, STS, Fendrich, etc..
